Implementers of the Rev-Bloom Baguio Project Puraw aim to finish at least half of the more than 6,000 households in the four barangays of Quirino Hill by yearend.

The Department of Tourism-Cordillera on Friday turned over paints from donor Boysen Paints and painting materials from the DOT regional office to the punong barangays of Quirino Hill, which have already started painting houses last March.

DOT Regional Director Marie Venus Q. Tan said that while the accomplishment of the project is dependent on various factors, they are aiming to paint at least half of the area this year.

She encouraged PBs Eric Ueda of East Quirino Hill, Van Oliver Dicang of Lower Quirino Hill, Ignacio Gallente of Middle Quirino Hill, and Rodolfo Rimando of West Quirino Hill to tap volunteers in their respective areas to help in the house painting. This is to address concerns that some of the household owners may not be able to handle the painting jobs and do it according to standards.

Councilor Elmer Datuin, who volunteered his office to be the coordinating arm of the city government with the Quirino Hill barangays, said the city through the City Buildings and Architecture Office is forming a committee tasked to monitor the progress and implementation of the project. Three job order engineers shall be hired by the city for the purpose.

Project Puraw aims to make Quirino Hill as a pilot area in Baguio that showcases the collective response of a community to the threats of global warming and climate change by creating a high impact beautification of Quirino Hill communities. This will be done through large-scale repainting of houses and structures with appropriate environment-friendly paint designs.

It further aims to transform the area into a unique tourist destination in the country that adheres to sustainable and responsible tourism management and respect for community participation.

The department is responsible in the successful transformation through community effort of a group of houses in Barangay Balili into a giant mural now known as Stobosa Hillside Homes Artwork as an initial project component of the RevBloom Cordillera campaign launched by Tan to boost the region’s tourism.
