Parking building won’t affect BGH heritage value, says chief
by Rimaliza A. Opiña

The management of the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center assured that its proposed parking building will not do any damage to the heritage value of the hospital building.

BGHMC Chief Ricardo Ruñez said the six-level parking building, which can accommodate 100 cars will be built at the vacant lot beside the Flavier Building.

He said when the multilevel parking building was being planned, the BGH garden has been considered as site but the management decided against it, for the area is within the heritage zone of the hospital.

Funds for the building’s construction is from a loan from the Development Bank of the Philippines, which is payable in 15 years.

Ruñez said the BGHMC is discussing schemes on how to repay the loan and have broached the possibility for pay parking but no final decision has been reached.

He said loan payment will largely come from the hospital’s savings.

Aside from the multi-level building, other buildings that will be built at the hospital compound will have underground parking.

For 2018, the BGH has proposed to the Department of Health allocation of funds for the construction of a heart center, brain center, and trauma center.

A three-level parking building with 50 slots is also being planned at the corner going to the Phil-Am Compound Barangay.

The massive development is in line with the identification of the BGHMC as regional specialty center. The proposed developments are spread out from 2017 to 2022.

Ruñez said the BGH will be hiring a consultancy firm to tackle matters on zoning, design, safety, and efficiency.
