Baguio solon reports efforts, gains in first year in Congress
by BMC desk

The proposed creation of the BLISTT Development Council, the Cordillera Institute of Technical Education, and the proposed increased bed capacity of the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center were among the highlights of the first year accomplishments of Baguio Rep. Mark Go.

Speaking before Baguio officials and City Hall employees last week, Go said he authored 49 house bills and resolutions. Four of the bills were signed into law by President Rodrigo Duterte.

The BLISTT Development Authority is crucial to the continued growth of Baguio and outlying towns of La Trinidad, Itogon, Sablan, Tuba, and Tublay, as the body will perform planning, monitoring, and coordinating functions, while also exercising regulatory and supervisory authority over the delivery of area-wide services within the city and five municipalities.

He said BLISTT DA will soon be tackled by the Appropriations Committee and will be reported by the Committee on Government Enterprises, which will later be calendared for second reading by the Committee on Rules.

The Baguio solon also announced that his function is not limited to legislation, as his office has been working on various issues and concerns to cater to the needs of the city and its people.

“Our main objective is to uplift the living conditions of our constituents and promote their welfare. Specifically, we want to help individuals in crisis situation by providing food and transportation assistance, scholarships for the poor and deserving students; grant medical and financial assistance to indigents under the various programs of the government agencies,” Go said.

At least 513 patients with chronic kidney disease, 1,635 dialysis patients, and 206 patients with various illnesses received assistance from the office of the solon.

The “Our Go & Serve” livelihood training program that began in 2014 also helped dozens of city residents and their families.

Go also expressed support to the various priority programs of the Duterte administration, as he thanked the full support extended by other city officials and residents in the fulfillment of the programs and projects being initiated by his office.

“A year ago I took a solemn oath to incarnate your collective mandate to serve you and the City of Baguio.  Since then, I have been grateful for your trust and confidence, and for some clear moment in my life, I would like to think that a Higher Being has delineated me a purpose in this world greater than the privacy of an ordinary life.  The transition from a private person to a public figure was inceptively challenging, and through those days after my assumption in office as a legislator, I have realized that indeed serving you is a privilege I could not take for granted, and equally a calling where personal comfort is always treated negligible for the sake of the greater good,” Go added.

Go is one of the members of the 17th Congress who garnered perfect attendance in sessions.
