Consultations asked over village projects
by Aileen P. Refuerzo / PIO

The city council urged concerned agencies and project contractors to conduct honest-to-goodness consultations and proper coordination with barangay officials before the implementation of projects in the localities.

The body took the cudgels for barangay officials who aired their concern during the inquiry conducted by the city council.

“Before any project will be implemented in the barangays that need final acceptance by its officials, proper consultation with the barangay officials must be done by the implementing agency or the concerned contractor,” Resolution 203, s. 2012, which was approved last Monday, stated.

Councilor Joel Alangsab pushed for the inquiry as he saw the need to shed light on the process of implementing projects in the barangays to address complaints and problems raised by the barangays particularly on the consultation and coordination with the locals and failure to follow the plans and specifications for the projects.

“There are some instances when this initial step (of consultation) prior to the commencement of construction activities is not followed, creating a misunderstanding between the barangay officials and the contractors, leading to non-acceptance by the barangay officials after the completion of the project,” Alangsab said.
