Autonomy, development top priorities of new RDC chair
by Redjie M. Cawis / PIA

Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan vowed to prioritize development of the Cordillera with the quest for regional autonomy as he seats as the new chair of the Cordillera Regional Development Council.

Last week, President Rodrigo Duterte appointed Domogan as the new chair.

“The development of the region will be prioritized. All the needs and concerns of each of the provinces in the region will be studied,” Domogan said and assured that he will be working with the local government units and line agencies to ensure that the concerns of the region in terms of development and progress will be attained.

Domogan said the recent pronouncements by President Duterte of his support to Cordillera autonomy, as previously relayed by Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Sec. Jesus Dureza in Tabuk City, Kalinga,  is a welcome development.

National Economic Development Authority-CAR Director Milagros Rimando said Domogan’s appointment would be good for the Cordillera.

“Aside from the friendship of President Duterte and Mayor Domogan, the strong political ties of both leaders would be advantageous for the development and attainment of autonomy of the Cordillera,” Rimando said.

She said Domogan’s leadership would complement his chairmanship at the Regional Peace and Order Council.

As part of its mandate, the RDC has been continuously campaigning for the passage of a law declaring the Cordillera an autonomous region. It has embarked on a massive info and campaign to educate Cordillerans about self-rule.
