La Trinidad jeepneys will again be allowed to traverse Bokawkan Road.
Mayor Mauricio Domogan during his weekly Ugnayan, said he has already recommended to the city council for the amendment of the ordinance prohibiting the La Trinidad jeepneys from entering the city proper.
The ordinance was the basis for the implementation of the traffic scheme by former mayor Peter Rey Bautista on re-commendation of the Traffic Transport and Management Committee, composed of various sectors to relocate the La Trinidad jeepneys and come up with schemes to address the traffic congestion along Bokawkan and Magsaysay.
He said that as soon as the existing resolution of the city council is amended, the said jeepneys will already use Bokawkan. “I have asked the council to calendar the matter and make it a priority.”
He said that during the meeting with the different La Trinidad jeepney association, it was agreed that they will be allowed to traverse Bokawkan Road on condition that they will not use the place as staging as well as a loading area. The system will be pick-and-go unless the association can find a private place which they will use as a staging or a loading area.
Another condition is for the jeepneys to help implement the ordinance on non smoking in vehicles as well as help in maintaining cleanliness in the city by placing garbage receptacles and always informing their passengers not to litter.
The mayor said that he considered the benefits of the public in allowing the La Trinidad jeepneys to again ply Bokawkan but said that the odd-even scheme will be implemented.
On the clarification whether the city will wait for the council’s amendment or follow the schedule of the committee on public utilities, traffic and transport to allow them starting Monday. The council’s session is on Monday afternoon. Approval, however, will depend on the majority of the members of the city council.
He added that councilor Nicasio Aliping who heads the council committee will not give the recommendation on Monday if he cannot convince his colleagues to approve the amendment.
