Thank God for kind friends

The 17th year of our EMA Golf Cup, a one-day fun tournament, successfully teed off yesterday, July 7, at the serene and friendly Camp John Hay fairways. Threatened by rains and storms, a majority of local par busters dominated the list of players who supported the golf for-a-cause with the able supervision of perennial tournament director Dr. Willy Occidental.

Jen Herbolario, incoming president of the beneficiary Rotary Club of Downtown Session, assured the golfers and sponsors that the activity would augment the funding of their medical missions, feeding programs, scholarship program, and other worthy projects which her board will decide on.

Likewise, the proceeds shall also fund the maintenance and upkeep of the emergency medical assistance ambu-transport, which has been made available for transporting patients to and from a hospital; and the acquisition of wheelchairs and medicines.

By the way, at the St. Teresa De Avila Foundation, we have two scholarship grants (tuition only) available for poor but deserving students who desire to take up Education at Saint Louis University, University of Baguio, or University of the Cordilleras. All you need to present is a recommendation from your principal, high school grades, and the income tax returns of your parents, and you get four years of free college.

The EMA Cup previously raised almost P5 million, a large chunk of which was turned over to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center for dialysis patients. Together with our major sponsors, we have given 12 classrooms to our public schools at no cost to the government. We are now talking with the Baguio Fil-Indian Association of Paul Lalwani on sending children with heart diseases to India for medical care.

During the awarding ceremony at Newtown Plaza Hotel, in unison we shouted with glee, “Thank God for kind friends!” and sponsors for their unselfish support to the golf tourney.
