Cooperatives in Benguet provided employment to several residents, according to the Cooperative Development Authority.

The CDA reported that 1,643 individuals composed of 545 males and 1,098 females are employed in various cooperatives in Benguet.

CDA Cordillera Director Franco Bawang has encouraged the various groups to continue managing their cooperatives well, as their relatives will also be the one to benefit from the coops.

“We will be able to provide jobs to our relatives and our children where they can work after they graduate,” he said.

There are 337 registered cooperatives in the province as of December 2018, but 110 of them are considered non-operational.

La Trinidad has the highest number of cooperatives with 120 followed by Itogon with 38, Tuba with 24, Buguias with 22, Atok with 20, Bakun with 17, Mankayan with 16, Kabayan and Tublay have 15, Kibungan with 14, Sablan with nine, and Bokod with five.
