LT creates night market committee
by Ofelia C. Empian

A committee has been created to manage the night market in La Trinidad, Benguet.

Mayor Romeo Salda signed an executive order creating the night market committee, which shall be composed of the municipal administrator as chair with the sangguniang bayan chair of the committee on market as vice chair with members from the SB committee chair on tourism, ways and means, the Municipal Legal Office, Municipal Engineering Office, Treasurer’s Office, local economic investment promotions officer designate, and from the market association representatives as members.

The committee shall determine the location, the specifications, arrangements, and other important features of the night market.

The committee shall also monitor the operation of the night market and submit a quarterly report to the Office of the Mayor, in-charge of issuing identification cards for qualified vendors who apply as traders for the night market.

Also, the committee is in charge of accepting and verifying application forms of interested vendors, conduct a meeting once a month or when needed, and implement provisions of the Night Market Ordinance and determine the qualifications of the applicants and the goods or products to be displayed.

The municipal council of La Trinidad earlier approved Ordinance 1-2019 providing policies and procedures in the establishment and maintenance of a night market.

“The conduct of night market is advantageous to the municipality’s tourism, for local income generation and particularly for constituents working during nighttime,” Councilor Guiller Galwan, author of the ordinance, said.

The night market shall be conducted from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. and would be conducted in areas approved and authorized by the town council.

Also, a designated area will be provided for entrepreneurs and their structures and materials and the goods displayed must be removed after closing time.

Mounting of materials 30 minutes prior to operating time is prohibited.
