Support for wage hike asked
by PIA-Kalinga

TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) rallied employers and employees to support Wage Order 19.

Wage Order 19 sets the new daily basic minimum wage in Tabuk City at P305 for business establishments employing 10 or less and P315 for establishments employing more than 10.
Wage Order 19 has also integrated the Cost of Living Allowance to the basic daily wage.

RTWPB Secretary Augusto Aquillo in the recent orientation about Wage Order 19 explained that wage adjustment has been reached after series of consultations with the labor and business sectors.

“Admitting that any increase in wage rates may cause additional cost to the management, we also have to consider the plight of workers for them to at least meet the poverty threshold,” Aquillo said.

In the region, the poverty threshold is P298 per day.

Aquillo said the RTWPB cautiously studied the P25 per day wage rate adjustment, considering that 95 to 98 percent of the region’s business establishments are classified as microenterprises.

On incentives, Aquillo introduced the “incentivizing scheme,” where workers get a bonus pay based on performance.

He said this is a fair move, because a bonus is given to whom it is due.
