BONTOC, Mountain Province – The Department of Trade and Industry has conferred BAGWIS- Bronze Awards on 15 business establishments in the province for their continued compliance to consumer and fair trade laws.

Eight of the DTI-certified business establishments received their award during the Monday flag raising program at the Capitol while the seven awardees received their awards in earlier ceremonies in their respective municipalities.

DTI Provincial Director Juliet Lucas and Provincial Administrator Amador Batay-an handed over the certificates of recognition and Bagwis markers to the eight awardees.

The latest recipients of the Bagwis awards are New Stop and Shop Grocery in  Nacagang, Sabangan; Almar’s General Merchandise and Roadside Store, both from  Poblacion, Tadian; BL’s Hardware and General Merchandise in  Abatan, Bauko; Archog Pharmacy and General Merchandise, Tarnate’s Hardware and Electrical Supplies, Lumnay Enterprises and Family Savings Mart, all located in Poblacion, Bontoc.

The other awardees are the  Syldondale General Merchandise of Poblacion, Tadian; Boaging Store in Bauko; New RGD Haus Builders and Construction Services and Abatan Hardware, both located at Abatan, Bauko; and  Four Seasons Trading, Mountain Trading, and CFB Marketing and General Merchandise from Poblacion, Bontoc.

The business establishments received the BAGWIS bronze seal for observing the fair trade laws, namely the Consumer Act, Price Act, Price Tag Law, and PS/ICC Law; and  have set up their consumer welfare desk.

Lucas said the BAGWIS Program, formerly known as the DTI-Certified Business Establishment Program, recognizes establishments that uphold the rights of consumers while practicing responsible business where consumers get the best value for their money.

The program also aims to promote and foster the highest level of business ethics and uphold a fair and honest marketplace through voluntary self-regulation and service excellence, Lucas said.
