Business owners told to adopt tighter security measures
by Gaby B. Keith / PIO

Mayor Mauricio Domogan ratified an ordinance requiring owners or operators of hotels, malls, supermarkets, amusement centers, tourist spots, and other establishments or areas where the public converge to adopt tighter security measures.

These include the installation of close-circuit television cameras and use of metal detectors among other measures.

Authored by Vice Mayor Edison Bilog and councilors Leandro Yangot Jr. and Joel Alangsab, Ordinance 49 s. 2018 states that the measure will ensure public safety.

“Incidences of violence in public (places) are becoming common. Every day attacks and shootings  are in the news. The places involved in these crimes include malls and supermarkets,” the measure states.

The ordinance directs the City Buildings and Architecture Office in coordination with the Baguio City Police Office, Public Order and Safety Division, and Permits and Licensing Division to ensure its implementation.

It also tasks the CBAO in coordination with the BCPO and POSD to conduct regular ocular inspections to ensure that owners or operators of establishments have complied with the measure’s requirements.

Should the owners, operators,  or persons-in-charge want training pertaining to the security measures or frameworks provided for in the ordinance, the BCPO and POSD shall provide this to the establishment’s personnel or security force.

Any operator, owner, or person-in-charge found violating the ordinance shall be fined P3,000 on first offense; P4,000 on second offense; and P5,000 and cancellation of permits on third offense.
