Long–term lease for park bldg. proposed
by PIO release

Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan ordered the Local Finance Committee to study the possibility of leasing-out the Mines View Park building to maximize its potentials as a business center.

Domogan said he received a proposal from a private individual for a long-term lease of the building. “We need to ascertain the merits of the proposal to maximize the business potentials of the building so the members of the Local Finance Committee should seriously assess the offer and submit their recommendations the soonest to allow us to work on the lease of the property,” the mayor said.

The building, which was built over a decade ago, was supposed to accommodate vendors around the park in one building. However, Councilor Leandro Yangot Jr. reported in one of the meetings of the Baguio City Market Authority that the second and third floors of the Mines View building are no longer used as vendors prefer crowding in the first two floors because customers do not bother going up to the higher floors.

Yangot, chair of the city council committee on market, trade, commerce, and agriculture said only the Mines View district heath center located at the third floor is functioning, while the allocated stalls are now vacant.

Domogan also ordered the City Buildings and Architecture Office to study Yangot’s proposal to convert the fourth floor into a pay parking area to lessen the traffic jams in the area during weekends and peak tourism months, albeit he also asked the CBAO to study if the area will be able to withstand the volume of vehicles if it will be converted into a pay parking area.

The city government spent over P61 million for the building’s construction.
