Building expo organizer secures accreditation for professionals
by PIA

A building and construction exhibit kicked off last week to link suppliers and consumers at the same time provide free education units for professionals in the city.

Councilor Leandro Yangot, Benguet District Engineer Romelda Bangasan and architect May Rose Carreon on Thursday cut the ribbon to formally open the fifth edition of the Northern Building Exposition (NorthBuildEx 5) at the Baguio Convention Center.

Carreon, organizer of the event, said NorthBuildEx5 is the only building and construction expo north of Manila which links suppliers reach a wider market for their goods and services and give a good deal to consumers for building materials.

She said in the previous expositions, they selected beneficiaries to be given support. This year the expo focuses on helping their fellow engineers and architects get the necessary units for the renewal of their licenses.

The Professional Regulatory Commission mandates that professionals continue to enhance their knowledge of their profession through continuing professional development program (CDP) under Republic Act 10912.

Carreon said with the new PRC requirement, architects and engineers are required to earn 15 CDP credits units per year as condition for the renewal of their license.

NorthBuildEx has already processed its accreditation with the PRC as CPD provider north of Manila.

Carreon said the three-day expo would give at least 16 CPD units and at least four units are provided for free.

Speakers and topics include Eco-Business Singapore correspondent Ma. Felina Manongdo on “Green is gold – The next big opportunities in Southeast Asia’s green building industry; Stephanie Christiansen of the National Economic Development Authority-CAR on fulfilling the need for location decisions; Frank Lloyd Gonzaga on making home ownership affordable; Kit Buenaventura on harnessing ocean power; Daniel Peckley Jr. on sustainable energy from hydro electric power; Anthony Gragasin on construction project management; Aris Go on digital fabrication; EdgarGuevara on climate change solutions; and Carreon on logbook filing.
