Tourism offices in Abra urged
by Christian Alister G. Tubadez

BANGUED, Abra – Tourism officers in the province are requesting the provincial government to pass an ordinance mandating all towns to create their respective municipal tourism offices for a more effective implementation of local tourism programs and attain “Awesome Abra.”

In a meeting called by the Provincial Tourism Office headed by Rosemarie A. Collo last July 27, the municipal tourism officers requested Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member Ma. Elena A. Jenkins, chair of the SP committee on tourism, to sponsor such ordinance that also provides funds for the purpose.

Jenkins authored a resolution for the adoption of a tourism code of the province to guide the operation of local tourism offices and promote and sustain the local tourism program.

During the same meeting, representatives from the tourism offices of Bangued, Pidigan, Bucay, Dang-las, and San Juan presented their potential tourist attractions and respective tourism programs.

Marilou Bolante-Marbella, head of the Provincial Cooperative Development Office (PCDO), shared her insights and experiences on enterprise development that is a major component of tourism promotion. She said during the first few months of the PCDO operation under her management, the Partuat ti Abra Trade Center that showcases the province’s products has generated more than half a million pesos from sales.

Joy Lalin of the Tourism Enthusiasts, which serves as a tourism consultant in the Office of Congressman Joseph Sto. Nino B. Bernos, also presented how his group and volunteer members started promoting the different tourist attractions in the province through the help of bikers, motorists, and photographers in their group.
