by Redjie Melvic Cawis / PIA

SABLAN, Benguet – This town pushed through with the celebration of the 7th Fruit Festival through a simple program and thanksgiving mass.

Mayor Manuel Munar, Jr. said attendees to this year’s celebration were limited to officials and employees of the local government.

The Fruit Festival is an annual celebration of the municipality featuring the fruits and vegetables that are produced in town.

Sablan is known as the “fruit capital of Benguet.”

In their virtual messages, Benguet caretaker Eric Yap and Gov. Melchor Diclas greeted and thanked the people of Sablan, particularly the farmers.

Yap paid tribute to the farmers and assured support to them.

For his part, Diclas said the municipality, through the aspiration of its leaders has been fruitful in its endeavor in making Sablan a productive and resilient town.

He said the celebration reflects not only the culture of determination to face challenges such as the Covid-19 pandemic but also the humility of the people of the municipality.

He urged the people of Sablan to continue to be resilient and assured continued support for the production of varieties of fruits.

The governor also encouraged the public to eat more fruits and vegetables not only to help the farmers but also for good health.

This year’s celebration carried the theme, “Building resilience through gratitude.”

The celebration ended with the ceremonial planting of fruit-bearing trees led by the mayor, Municipal Agriculturist Ramon Anacioco, Municipal Assessor Allan Contero, Election Officer Jeff Rubino, and Sablan Municipal Police Station Chief of Police, Lt. Jonathan Pulig.
