LT Strawberry Farm soon to reopen to local tourists
by Ofelia C. Empian

Preparations are on the way for the full opening of the strawberry farm in La Trinidad, Benguet to cater to tourists.

Mayor Romeo Salda said the local tourism council, which includes the landowner, Benguet State University, is having a series of meetings to lay down the guidelines for the farm’s opening.

Salda said stall owners at the site are also waiting for the opening of the farm for them to stock ahead and also prepare processed products such as jams and wines.

He said stalls have been operating since community restrictions have been relaxed last year but on a scheduled basis.

BSU President Felipe Comila said the university is open to the suggestion of the council to first come up with guidelines.

Comila said BSU is planning on upgrading the strawberry fields by including infrastructure projects and improvement of the marketing of strawberries.

He said this will complement the proposed P50-million view deck and improvement of the strawberry farms earlier pledged by Benguet caretaker Rep. Eric Yap.

The opening of the strawberry farm would be in addition to the other agro-tourism farms which earlier opened in the municipality for Baguio and Benguet tourists.

Tourists are asked to book prior to going to the tourist spots and strictly observe the minimum health protocols.

The sites that opened are Mount Costa, Nature Reserve in Longlong, Puguis (0977-409-7004); Darjanes Flower Garden, Shilan; Lily of the Valley organic farm, Ampasit, Puguis (0920-685-8281); Avong nen Romy Nature Park, upper Wangal (0998-227-9343); Living Gifts cactus farm, central Agno (0995-463-9824), Mt. Kalugong, Tawang (0929-302-4287); Bell Church (0933-150-4606); Garden Nen Ynes Anthuria, Shilan (0908-780-7006); Cosmic farm, Beckel (0926-724-9284); and Cordillera Farm Park, Longlong, Puguis.

Mt. Yangbew in Tawang is also open but for La Trinidad residents only.
