Mayor seeks bocaps’ support in road clearing operations
by Susan C. Aro / PIA

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Mayor Romeo Salda sought the cooperation of barangay officials in identifying road obstructions and illegal structures in their respective areas to facilitate road clearing operations.

Salda called on the various punong barangays for their cooperation during a joint meeting of the Municipal Peace and Order Council and the Municipal Development Council.

The clearing of public roads used for private purposes by the local government units was ordered by President Rodrigo Duterte through the Department of the Interior and Local Government Memorandum Circular 2019-121.

Salda praised Balili Punong Barangay Billy Bilango who was supportive during the operations and hopes other barangay will do the same in the continuing endeavor.

Also presented during the meeting were reports on the road clearing operations along Km. 3 to Km. 6 under within Barangay Balili.

Almost all identified obstructions along the stretch were cleared of obstructions and illegal structures in close coordination with concerned parties.

Latest reports of the Municipal Police Office were violations on vehicular traffic impediments which reached around 400 for the month.

Among the notable issues are titles issued along roads prior to road construction, titled lots within public roads, removal of paved sidewalks during widening, and cleared areas used as parking areas.

The presence of Department of Public Works and Highways representatives during operations has been recommended for the delineation of road perimeter in establishing public use and other related concerns.

Local government units are mandated to give weekly reports on the implementation of the road clearing.

A provincial road clearing validation team led by the DILG was organized to validate and monitor the LGUs’ compliance to the directive.
