Benguet towns to get P123M under assistance program
by Harley F. Palangchao

The 13 towns of Benguet stand to receive more than P123 million this year under the assistance to the municipalities program, said Rep. Ronald Cosalan.

The capital town of La Trinidad will get the highest share with P13.1M followed by Tublay and Sablan with P10.8M and P10.6M, respectively.

Itogon will also get P10.5M while Tuba, Buguias, Itogon, Kibungan, and Mankayan will have shares between P10.03M and P10.2M.

Kapangan, Bokod, Bakun, and Atok will also get more than P9M each while Kabayan will get more than P7M.

The release of fund assistance, however, is still on hold pending the formulation of guidelines by the Department of Budget and Management.

Many local government units benefit from the assistance to municipalities program, formerly called the Bottom Up Budgeting (BUB) program.

The program was enhanced to assist more municipalities that are in need of funds.

Previously, the national government does the planning and downloads projects to LGUs.

Now, LGUs do the planning, in re-cognition of the fact that they know what is best for their municipalities.

Assistance to municipalities is included in the General Appropriations.

The DBM will disburse funds directly to LGUs once the guidelines have been set.
