DSWD, PA partner for disaster response
by Press release

The Department of Social Welfare and Development and the 503rd Infantry Brigade, 5th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army formalized their partnership for better disaster response by signing a memorandum of cooperation on June 3.

The memorandum of cooperation was signed by DSWD-Cordillera Director Janet Armas and B/Gen. Henry Doyaoen.

Under the agreement, the DSWD is allowed to occupy a portion of the army’s warehouse at Barangay Calanan, Tabuk City, Kalinga for the prepositioning of relief goods.

The current warehouse of the DSWD is in La Trinidad, Benguet.

“For the past years, the region experienced destructive typhoons, floods, and landslides. Kalinga has the highest number of affected families. With its distance from the field office, the warehouse in Kalinga will definitely help us in providing the necessary relief assistance to the province and nearby areas,” Armas said.

“This partnership is part of the convergence of the whole of the government’s approach to solve the problems of our country. Through the partnership, we will be able to fast-track the delivery of the services of government agencies,” Doyaoen said.

The DSWD is following the private-public partnership framework to promote more, better, affordable and timely services to its clientele. Through this, partner agencies and institutions serve as gabay (guide), tulay (bridge) and kaagapay (partner) in the monitoring and implementation of various DSWD programs and services.
