7 bills filed by Benguet Solon signed into law
by Harley F. Palangchao

Seven House Bills authored by Benguet Rep. Ronald Cosalan during the 17th Congress, which covers the period 2016 to 2019 were signed into law by President Rodrigo Duterte.

The latest bill to be approved into law is Republic Act 11268 which established the Ambiong National High School in La Trinidad, Benguet.

Two more secondary annex schools in Benguet were likewise granted independent status last year.

RA 10992 has established the Tublay National Trade High School from Tublay School of Home Industries Extension in Barangay Tublay Central.

RA 10996 also established the Daklang NHS from Bokod NHS-Daklan Extension in Bokod.

Separating the annexes from their mother schools and converting them into national high schools will mean delivery of quality education to the students.

This means too, that these new national high schools can fill up plantilla positions without begging from their mother schools. These schools can also ask for funds from the Education department to improve their facilities and grounds.

Duterte also signed RA 11256, which exempted small-scale miners from paying excise and income taxes when selling gold to accredited gold traders or to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.

The other two laws enacted are the renaming of two roads in Benguet in honor of the two great leaders of the province.

RA 11061 has renamed the Gurel-Bokod-Kabayan-Abatan Road to Cong. Andres Acop Cosalan Road while RA 11042 renamed the Acop-Tublay-Kapangan-Kibungan-Bakun-Sinipsip Road to Gov. Bado Dangwa National Road.

Cosalan also authored the law that granted another 25 years the franchise granted to Infocom Communications Network., Inc. or presently known as Now Telecom Company, Inc. to construct, establish, operate and maintain mobile radio systems.
