Benguet police nabs 63 fugitives, guns
by Rose Celine Jimenes and Keisha Ta-asan

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The Benguet Police Provincial Office has arrested 63 persons with warrants of arrest, including one top most wanted person in the municipal level.

Supt. Tess Sarmiento, information officer of Benguet PPO, also reported that the Benguet’s Finest under S/Supt. Lyndon Mencio is also successful in its campaign against loose firearms and illegal logging in the province.

Sarmiento said those arrested in the series of operations conducted by personnel of the 13 municipal police stations were charged for robbery, homicide, theft, illegal drugs, illegal gambling, and violations of ordinances.

Benguet police confiscated seven different types of guns and ammunition, and one hand grenade during the implementation of Kontra Boga operations.

The Philippine National Police launched the Kontra Boga operation in 2009 to target firearms with expired licenses and unregistered and unlicensed firearms in possession of civilians, threat groups, and criminals.

Police operations also confiscated a jeepney loaded with 12 pieces of pine lumber worth P96,543 and several equipment used for illegal logging.

A total of P5,405 bet money, two card lists from bettors, two booklets of papelitos, five sets of playing cards, notebooks, and a ballpen were also seized during anti-illegal gambling operation.

Mencio has vowed that all 13 municipal police stations will sustain and reinforce their peace and order campaign while those who committed crimes will be brought to justice.

Mencio attributed the success of police operations to the continued support and collaboration of stakeholders and the local government units to ensure that the province will remain a safe place to live, work, study, and do business in.
