Barangay Lubas is this year’s most child-friendly barangay among the 16 villages of La Trinidad, Benguet for its various programs supportive of children’s development in the community.
With its award, Lubas received a plaque and P75, 000 during the awarding rites on Nov. 28 at the municipal gym. The amount will be used for the continuation of its programs on child development.
Lubas Punong Barangay Roger Angel has encouraged all barangay officials and staff members to be role models in the community and to continue their programs for children and the youth.
Next after Lubas is Alapang, which received P65, 000 followed by Ambiong, which received P55,000 then Alno with P45,000 and Bahong with P35,000 cash prizes.
The rest of the barangays received P10, 000 each except for three barangays that were not able to pass their requirements for the award.
Special award was given to Alapang as the best in innovation of its programs.
As a tool for the mandatory requirements, the Department of Interior and Local Government has set standards for LGUs to meet and attain to be considered as a child-friendly unit.
The awardees were judged based on their continuing effort to be child-friendly units and have serve as models and functionality of their programs for the children clientele.
The DILG aims that the cities and municipalities should aim for the betterment of children and set standards for the children to live in an ideal community.
The search, which is conducted from the barangay level up to the national level, is an annual recognition conducted by the DSWD, DILG, Department of Education and several other agencies, participated in by LGUs nationwide.
