Fifteen agricultural competitions are lined up for this year’s Adivay Festival and celebration of the 117th founding anniversary of Benguet.

Lolita Bentres, head of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, said participants will come from the best of the 13 towns of Benguet.

“The municipalities will be the one to choose their representatives for the various contests. We expect the competitions to be as colorful as in the past years,” Bentres said.

The agri skills competition will feature 12 minor events including on-the-spot canvas painting and the seed art mosaic attack both on Nov. 16; the pinaka-best contest for the sweetest fruit such as papaya, pineapple, guyabano, mango, strawberry, rattan, passion fruit, and citrus and the best vegetable according to its marketable size covering potato, cabbage, Chinese cabbage, carrot, squash, tomato, sweet pepper (bell pepper) and eggplant on Nov. 17.

Also happening on Nov. 17 will be the nutri-snack root crop-based and rice-based preparation and presentation contest. The veggie-salad and potato salad preparation will be witnessed on Nov. 19 while fruit carving and presentation contest and the fruit plating design and presentation contest happens on Nov. 20.

Other events to be participated in will be table-type flower arrangement and elegant floral designs for special occasions on Nov. 21.

The audience can also participate in the following events: hot coffee drinking contest, mashed potato eating contest, carrot eating contest, weightlifting and kayabang relay (five members per team) on Nov. 22.

Major events include the most coveted best agri booth where booths of the 13 municipalities of the province will be judged during the whole duration of the fair from Nov. 15 to 24 as well as the best in landscaping or garden show in the same period.

An event for farmers will also commence during the field day on Nov. 18 for their team building.

This year’s founding anniversary theme is “Benguet culture, our future: Sustaining cultural identity amidst global changes.”

Adivay is an Ibaloi term which means  “coming together.” The provinces’ villages are being encouraged to participate in the activities and the grand parade on Nov. 23.
