LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Government job fairs bring employment opportunities closer to the people, and for some qualified and lucky applicants, they can be hired on-the-spot.
In the Strawberry Festival job fair here conducted recently in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment and the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency, there were 496 applicants of which 19 job seekers were hired on-the-spot.
Elengy Polidi of the Public Employment Services Office said two were hired as skilled workers overseas while the 17 were hired as service crew for local companies.
Polidi said that for overseas jobs, they will undergo a process after their interview in the jobs fair.
The job fair indeed helped jobseekers a lot. She shared how a driver who was hired on-the-spot in last year’s job fair was so thankful of the opportunity.
Polidi has a piece of advice to parents – to let their children finish a course as employers prefer college degree holders even for menial jobs.
The job fair spearheaded by the DOLE aims to fast-track the meeting of jobseekers and employers and overseas recruitment agencies in one venue at a specific date to reduce cost, time, and effort the part of the applicants.
The job fair is open to all unemployed, skilled and unskilled workers, fresh college graduates, graduates of training institutions, displaced workers and employees seeking advancement. During the job fair, employers could interview and hire on the spot qualified workers.
