The newly elected president of the Benguet Mayor’s League last week assured members that he would provide teamwork and unified action in helping bring about development to the province.
“I will work for the common goal of bringing about development to each of the municipalities,” said lawyer and new mayors’ league president Roberto Canuto. “In this regard, I will work closely with the office of congressman Ronald Cosalan and Gov. Nestor Fongwan to come up with a unified action.”
The officers of the league were inducted by Fongwan in simple but fitting ceremonies at the Al’s Restaurant on July 17.
Aside from Canuto, other officers of the league include: Materno Luspian (Mankayan) as vice president, Oscar Camantiles (Itogon) as secretary, Mauricio Macay (Bokod) as treasurer, Faustino Aquisan (Kabayan) as auditor, Gregorio Abalos, Jr.,(La Trinidad) as press relations officer, and Florencio Bentres (Tuba) as business manager.
The members of the board of directors are Ruben Paoad of Tublay, Melchor Diclas of Buguias, Peter Alos of Atok, Arthur Baldo of Sablan, Marcelo Contada of Bakun, and Benito Siadto of Kibungan.
The mayor’s league president will sit as member of the Regional Development Council as provided for in the local government code.
Abalos, as mayor of the capital town, is also entitled to a seat at the RDC, the policy-making body in the region.
The election of the new seat of officers was done by consensus after an agreement was reached to install Canuto as president.
