One dies in Apayao landslide
by OCD release

A 23-year-old male died when he was hit by debris brought about by a monsoon rain-induced landslide in Apayao.

Local police and Bureau of Fire Protection personnel, together with Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office staff members who responded to a landslide incident at Barangay Naguilian, Calanasan, Apayao on Dec. 29, recovered the body of Alvin Alamin, a resident of barangay Eva also in Calanasan.

Based on reports, Alamin, together with his companions identified as Roy Paloy and Floriefe Anguluan, were riding on separate motorbikes and forced their way through the mudflow along the Cagayan-Calanasan, Apayao Road.

Paloy, who first crossed, warned the victim of the ongoing mudflow when falling debris hit the victims head, causing him to fall about 100 meters down from the main road.

His body was brought to Apayao Provincial Hospital.

The Calanasan MDRRM Council has earlier advised the public against rain-induced landslides brought about by the Northeast monsoon.
