Abra town opens fire station
by PIA–Abra

VILLAVICIOSA, Abra – The Villaviciosa fire station located at Barangay Poblacion is now open and ready to serve residents of the municipality and neighboring towns of San Isidro and Pilar.

The construction of the fire station was made possible through the effort of Municipal Fire Marshal SFO2 Arnel B. Barreras, Mayor Jose W. Lagen Jr., and Vice Mayor Marjorie L. Lagen who donated the lot to the Bureau of Fire Protection.

S/Supt. Lilibeth Q. Simangan, regional director of the BFP-Cordillera; Supt. Alex L. Testado, Abra Provincial Fire Marshal; and Lagen led the ribbon cutting during the formal opening of Villaviciosa’s new fire station after the mass and blessing of the building led by Rev. Fr. Louie A. Tungpalan.

Lagen said that the building is a symbol of development and improvement which the local, provincial, regional, and national government should be proud of.

“Before, our fire marshals were patiently staying in a small room at our municipal hall. Now, they have their own home. We now believe that they can more effectively deliver fire protection services to the people,” he said.

He also lauded the BFP for the accomplishment.

Simangan said that out of the 27 municipalities of the Abra, 14 towns still have no fire stations but the lots where stations can be situated were already donated by the local government units.

She said that she will do her best to facilitate the allocation and release of funds for the establishment of fire stations in all the municipalities of Abra.

She also asked for public support so that the projects of the BFP could be realized and asked the community’s cooperation in fire prevention initiatives.

“As we observe the Fire Prevention Month, let fire prevention be our responsibility,” Simangan said.
