Abra kagawad arrested for drugs
by Ofelia C. Empian

A barangay kagawad in Abra, labeled by the police regional office as one of the new high value targets in the government’s war on drugs was recently arrested for illegal drugs.

The Police Regional Office-Cordillera identified the suspect as Reynante T. Tugadi, 32, from Tayum.

He was arrested in his residence by virtue of a search warrant released by an Abra court.

During the search, authorities confiscated two sachets of shabu from Tugadi.

Supt. Carol Lacuata, PRO-Cor information officer, clarified that Tugadi is not included in the list of narco politicians earlier released by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

“He is newly identified that’s why he is not one of the barangay officials of Abra who met with the PRO-Cor Director C/Supt. Rolando Nana recently,” Lacuata said.

Earlier, 14 out of the 24 barangay officials who are included in the narco-politician list met with PRO-Cor top brasses in Camp Bado Dangwa to reaffirm their commitment in helping the government in its anti-drugs and anti-criminality program.

The barangay officials, who voluntarily underwent profiling and drug tests, were accompanied by Abra Gov. Joy Bernos.

PDEA-Cordillera Asst. Director Allan Leaño said the 24 barangay officials from Abra are still on the list pending the creation of an adjudication board in the national level.

Leaño said the adjudication board would be tasked to check the accuracy of all the 207 names in the drug list earlier presented to President Rodrigo Duterte.

“(The board) will recommend the result of the adjudication to the President, and it is only the President who will approve or disapprove the delisting of these narco politicians,” he said.
