Abra sets speed limit during CARAA
by PIA–Abra

BANGUED, Abra – Speed limit of vehicles in some municipalities here has been set to 40 kilometers per hour during the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (Caraa) meet from Feb. 4 to 9 to ensure public safety and order with the expected influx of delegates from the different provinces.

Members of the sangguniang panlalawigan approved Special Ordinance 265 that imposed a speed limit not exceeding 40kph for all types of vehicles traversing the roads within Pidigan, Peñarrubia, Bangued, La Paz, Tayum, and Lagangilang during the Caraa meet.

This aims to address the impending traffic problem with the influx of delegation officials, athletes, visitors, and people who will engage in various business activities during the week-long sports event.

The ordinance likewise requires all delegation vehicles to be marked or numbered accordingly for proper identification based on their province or city of origin.

Violators will be fined P1,000 on first offense; P1,500 and confiscation of driver’s license on second offense;  and P2,500 and confiscation of driver’s license on third offense.

Almost 5,000 athletes, coaches, officials, and staff from Benguet, Apayao, Kalinga-Tabuk, Abra, Mountain Province, Ifugao, and Baguio converged here for the yearly sporting meet, opening today, Feb. 4, aimed at developing present and future world-class athletes from the region.
